Assumption Man Arrested By FBI For Making Online Threats

The FBI has arrested 50-year old Randall R. Burrus of Assumption on multiple charges including possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a firearm after conviction for misdemeanor domestic violence. He has a previous felony and misdemeanor convictions in Shelby and Christian counties.

According to a press release from the Department of Justice US Attorney John C. Milhiser, Burrus is being accused of using the Discord gaming chat platform to make various threats using the username “Martyrdom.” The FBI National Threat Operations Center handled the investigation after they received a tip saying that the subject of the conversation seemed to be, according to prosecutors, the planning of an attack at a school, mosque, or synagogue somewhere either in Canada, the United States, or New Zealand.

The FBI searched the house on Sarah Street in Assumption on Wednesday. During that search, they seized a .223 Ruger Mini 14 rifle, a Smith and Wesson .40 handgun and numerous boxes of ammunition.

If Burrus is convicted on all charges he faces up to 10 years in prison. Burrus is currently being held in Macon County Jail on a federal hold with no bond. He is set to appear for his next hearing on Monday, April 20th.
