Taylorville School Board Looking At Alternate Graduation Ideas

Remote learning and moving forward through a pandemic took center stage during a remote meeting via Google Hangouts on Monday evening for the Taylorville School District. President Stephen Turner led the board, all of which were in attendance, during the meeting and praised superintendent Chris Dougherty for her hard work during this COVID-19 outbreak. Dr. Dougherty was on vacation when the outbreak happened and self quarantined but continued to communicate diligently with the staff.

The building trades house has a flexible finish date, and some volunteers are coming in and keeping social distancing, finishing up the house. Principal Matt Hutchison praised teacher Matt Blomquist for his hard work on the building trades house.

With the executive order in response to COVID-19, Dr. Dougherty promised to keep the board up to date on what is going on and to make sure the board is aware and participating in any guidance that gets put out. Matt Hutchison spoke about graduation plans, which is still set for May 22, by having an alternate plan such as a drive-thru graduation.

Dr. Dougherty will be putting out a 5 page timeline on how the School District has handled the COVID-19 virus and the steps and order that she and the School Board have responded. Dr. Turner thanked the staff and the board for their hard work during this pandemic.

The next Taylorville School Board meeting is set for Monday, May 11th.
