Taylorville Police Chief Dwayne Wheeler wants to remind Taylorville residents that April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. The Taylorville Police Department is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and over 150 other local law enforcement agencies across Illinois to increase enforcement of distracted driving. From 2012 – 2018, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 23,000 people died as a result of distracted driving.

This campaign is being funded with federal traffic safety funds and being administered by the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC).

Chief Wheeler went on to say that the Taylorville Police Department is working to keep everyone safe during this crisis and to please “Drop it and Drive.”
