First Cases Of COVID-19 in Central and Southern Illinois Discovered

Governor JB Pritzker and the Health Department announced that the total cases of COVID-19 now in Illinois stand at 64. The Illinois Department of Public Health has announced that there are new cases that have been discovered of COVID-19 or the coronavirus in central and southern Illinois today. A Woodford County resident in his 70s and a Cumberland County resident in his 70s both tested positive for COVID-19. Two St. Clair County residents have also tested positive including a woman in her 60s and a woman in her 70’s. 

 

A woman in her 60s from DuPage County that resides in a long term facility has also tested positive and the Illinois Department of Health is on the scene and working to identify all close contacts and protect the health and safety of all residents and staff at the facility. 

 

The state is starting to receive results from commercial laboratory testing, so the Department of Health expects that the number of cases will go up dramatically. The Department of Health continues to stress limiting activities in large groups and washing your hands often. Counties that have COVID-19 include Cumberland, DuPage, St. Clair, Woodford, Cook, Kane, and Lake Counties.
