Taylorville Kiwanis Hears About Taylorville Fire Department at Weekly Meeting

The Taylorville Kiwanis Club heard from a Captain with the Taylorville Fire Department, during their weekly luncheon Tuesday at the club’s new meeting place, the Taylorville Moose Lodge.  Kiwanis member Adam Jeffrey (right) was this week's program chair.

Nick Hackney (left) told Kiwanis members he's been a firefighter since 2000, and full-time with the Taylorville Fire Department since 2005.  Hackney was promoted to Captain in January of this year.

Hackney gave an inspirational and personal overview of the December 1, 2018 tornado, responding to calls all night knowing that his own residence was completely destroyed.  He told Kiwanis members he was glad his family was safe at the firehouse, and was amazed at the response of help from everywhere.

Hackney said that people in the Taylorville community are still seeking emotional and financial help as a result of the December 2018 tornado.

Hackney gave Kiwanis members a brief overview of the Taylorville Fire Department of today.  It operates with a Chief, Assistant Chief, 3 Captains, and 3 shifts of firefighters that work 24 hours on and 48 hours off.  He called it a great career.

The Taylorville Kiwanis Club is part of global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.  Weekly meetings are held Tuesdays at noon at their new meeting location, the Taylorville Moose Lodge.  For information on the club, go to taylorvillekiwanis.com.
