State Republicans Pushing For Property Tax Reform

Illinois State Representatives got together to announce new legislative proposals to provide property tax relief to struggling homeowners today. Republicans Dan Brady from Normal, Deanne Mazzochi from Elmhurst, Dan Ugaste from Geneva and Joe Sosnowski from Rockford announced some new proposals to property taxes that keep increasing. Deanne Mazzochi says that property taxes are part of the reason why Illinois is losing so many citizens and businesses out of the state.

Mazzochi is concerned that democrats aren’t taking property tax relief seriously. Mazzochi has introduced House Bill 5293 that creates the senior citizen's homestead school levy exemption as a way to help residents stay in their homes and not have to leave due to high property taxes.

Representative Dan Brady says that this shouldn’t be a partisan issue, but that both sides need to push farther to let these bills have their day in committee.

House Republicans have filed more than twenty pieces of legislation to address property tax relief that ranges from pension reform to increased transparency and resource sharing.
