House Republicans Working On Fixes To FOID Card

House Republicans of the State of Illinois continue to work on ways to end delays in firearm owner’s identification cards or FOID card processing, and discussed their shared 2nd Amendment focused legislative agenda. Lawmakers are concerned that delays are hurting Illinoisan rights and FOID card applications and concerns that renewals have been delayed for processing applications and renewals.

Representative Patrick Windhorst from Metropolis is sponsoring a legislative package that would eliminate the FOID altogether.

Representative Mike Marron from Fithian says that the FOID is unconstitutional and the State needs to figure it out or eliminate it.

Representative Charlie Meier from Okawville says that the FOID card needs to be provided in a timely manner or they need to get rid of it.

Illinois is only one of four states that still requires a FOID card. Multiple House Republican members are pushing through legislation to fix the FOID card issues or get rid of it altogether.

Some bills that are being processed include HB 4391 which would ban local governments from imposing taxes or fees on firearms and ammunition. HB 4392 would eliminate the 72 hour waiting period for individuals that have been granted a valid license to carry a concealed handgun. HB 4393 would lower the fee to obtain a concealed carry license from $150 to $100. and HB 4398 would allow individuals that have a permit to conceal carry to do so on public transportation.
