The Christian County Fair Great Chili Cookoff took place on Saturday with the winners being eligible to attend the national championships in Ankeny, Iowa. Tom Calvert, who participated in the event says he’s surprised more people didn’t compete.
Calvert says that the roots of chili run deep in Taylorville, affectionately known as the Chili Capital of Illinois.
Winners were picked in three categories; red, homestyle, and verde. People from all over the United States competed including contestants from Alabama, Mississippi, Indiana, and West Virginia. Regional Radio News was live for the Christian County Fair Great Chili Cookoff.
