New Taylorville Police Chief Guest Speaker at Kiwanis Club Meeting

The Taylorville Kiwanis Club heard from the new Taylorville Chief of Police, at their weekly luncheon Tuesday at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital auditorium.

Dwayne Wheeler took the reins of the Taylorville Police Department on July First.  He says that 2 major priorities are mentoring the younger officers, and lowering the number of thefts and burgularies in the city.

Chief Wheeler added the reason there are so many thefts and burgularies, is due to drug addicts stealing to support their habit.  He went on to explain that the Department is aware of as many as 12 drug houses in the city, and his goal is to do the police work necessary to cause arrests at each of them and close them down.

Chief Wheeler said that both he and Assistant Police Chief Vince Childers, are working the streets along with the officers, to provide more manpower to reduce crime in the city.

7 members of the Decatur Golden K Kiwanis Club, were guests at Tuesday’s Taylorville Kiwanis Club meeting.

The Taylorville Kiwanis Club is part of global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.  Weekly meetings are held Tuesdays at noon at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital auditorium.  For information on the club, go to taylorvillekiwanis.com.
