Taylorville School Board Approves Stonington Building To Parks Department

The Taylorville School Board met Monday evening with a new face and a few missing.  Dr. Chris Dougherty, the new Superintendent sat in on her first meeting taking the seat over for Dr. Gregg Fuerstenau.  There was also a special board meeting earlier in the evening to discuss the replacement for the departure of board member Pamela McConnell whose letter of resignation was accepted on June 21st.  The board announced tonight a passage handing over the Stonington school building back to the people of Stonington by giving it to the Stonington Park District.  The building will be used for the library, board rooms, and an all-purpose room for the village of Stonington.  Mary Detro, President of the Library board, didn’t know that the school board had agreed to do this.

The board also approved a resolution to give the resource officer $12,000 more a year.  Dr. Stephen Turner School board president explained that it was important because of benefits.

Lizzy Schafer from the Future Farmers of America also came by along with other members of the FFA to give her “State Champion Creed” public speaking presentation and talk about the group’s recent trip to Europe. The next board of education meeting will be August 12th.
