Taylorville Kiwanis Hears From Christian County Treasurer at Weekly Meeting

The Taylorville Kiwanis Club heard from the Christian County Treasurer, during their weekly luncheon Tuesday at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital auditorium.

Betty Asmussen outlined the process whereby property tax numbers are established.  She said it’s a multi-step process, with 3 county offices involved:  The Christian County Asessment Office, the County Clerk’s Office, and the County Treasurer’s Office.

She added that when Christian County tax bills are mailed out, is based on when the county gets its annual multiplier from the Illinois Department of Revenue.  Asmussen said that number is already 4 weeks late, and she’s hopeful she’ll get it soon so that Christian County tax bills can be mailed out on time.

Asmussen also announced that Christian County is one of 7 counties statewide, that will participate in a program to allow taxpayers to have their tax bills sent to them via e-mail, rather than the U-S Mail.

She said taxpayers can either stop by her office to fill out an authorization form, or complete the form which will be on-line on the Christian County Treasurer’s page of christiancountyil-dot-com.

The Taylorville Kiwanis Club is part of global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.  Weekly meetings are held Tuesdays at noon at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital auditorium.  For information on the club, go to taylorvillekiwanis.com.
