A tornado which the National Weather Service called as catrostrophic, hit Christian County during the 5 o'clock hour this afternoon, with roofs torn off, trees and power lines down.
Law enforcement agencies are urging Taylorville residents to stay put, while emergency vehicles and power crews work to get streets cleared, getting to homes that may have people trapped, and get power restored.
Illinois State Police are asking motorists to NOT travel to Taylorville until further notice.
