Wal-Mart will be spending some 5-million dollars on a renovation of its Taylorville Super-Center on the northwest side of the city, starting in January with completion in April. Taylorville mayor Bruce Barry made that announcement during his "State of the City" address at the annual meeting of the Christian County Economic Development Corporation at People's Bank and Trust in Taylorville on Friday.
Barry added that the city negotiated with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, to get the EPA's interest rate for the water treatment plant, lowered, and some principal forgiven, that will both mean substantial savings to the city.
Barry has been mayor of Taylorville for some 18 months.
