On Monday night, the Taylorville City council held a public hearing in regards to the new proposed business development district at the Municipal building. The goal of the new district, is to try and help businesses grow, and entice new business to come to Taylorville and help the city grow. However, a 1% sales tax will apply to certain areas of the district, and its left questions among the public, and City Council. One concern was how the new district will affect downtown. Mayor Bruce Barry commented on those concerns.

Barry also discussed how he hopes the new district will add more residential areas around the Walmart area.

The public hearing concluded just after 7 in the evening.
