Weather Service Issues Winter Storm Warning, Winter Weather Advisory for Listening Area

 width=

The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Montgomery and Fayette Counties in the Regional Radio listening area, and a Winter Weather Advisory for the rest of the listening area, from 6pm Saturday thru 6pm Sunday.

The Weather Service says a storm system is expected to bring snow back into our area Saturday afternoon and continue through Sunday afternoon or evening. By the time the storm shifts away from our area late Sunday, we could see snowfall totals in the 4 to 6 inch range by Sunday afternoon, with locally higher amounts possible, especially along and south of a Springfield to Champaign line which is further south than what we saw with the model data yesterday at this time.

Winds will not be much of a factor with this storm with wind speeds of 10 mph or less expected through Sunday.

Afternoon temperatures on Sunday will climb to around freezing along and especially south of I-72 which should help melt some of the snow during the afternoon.
