The City of Taylorville has been selected by an Internet blog, as number 5 of "The 25 Most Affordable Cities in the United States—25 Gems Where You Can Live Large for Less."

Author Ken Lyons made Taylorville number 5 of his Top 25 list, stating, quote:

Located 30 miles from Springfield, IL, Taylorville is categorized as an extremely livable city with a cost of index living of 78. Taylorville has all of the amenities of a larger city, yet it boasts an historic downtown area with “many tree-lined brick streets, quaint neighborhoods,” and parks. Taylorville has low crime rates and high graduation rates. Lyons goes on to say that the Taylorville Community Unit School District #3, Taylorville’s public school system, includes three elementary schools, one junior high, and one senior high, as well as an early childhood school.
