An accident Wednesday afternoon on Route 29 north of Edinburg has claimed a life. According to the Illinois State Police, witnesses said the driver of a blue 2003 Chevy van was driving the wrong way, heading north in the southbound lane. The witnesses told police the van then veered off the road, then swerved back into the southbound lane, striking the trailer of a 1999 International Truck Tractor, which was headed south. The Chevy came to rest on the northbound lane, while the truck wound up in the ditch on the southbound side.
The driver of the van was reportedly killed. The name of the deceased has not been released. The driver of the truck, a 42 year-old Edinburg man, was apparently uninjured.
