PARK BOARD HEARS UPDATE ON GOLF COURSE IRRIGATION PROJECT

The Taylorville Park Board heard an update on the Lake Shore irrigation project from Jeff Boldig, golf course superintendant. According to Boldig the 1st phase of the project, the main line irrigation, is under way and expected to be completed in 30 days or less, weather permitting. Over the next 3 weeks the main line pipe will be installed starting on hole 11 and continuing along holes 15, 10, 6, 5 and 4. After that phase is completed the main line pipe for holes 12, 13 and 14 will be installed, followed by the main pipe for holes 3, 6, 7, 9, 1, 18 and the driving range. Boldig announced that the project is moving along well as is the rebuilding of the bunkers on the front 9 holes. Play is up approximately 3 to 4% for the year. The fall projects include the seed work on the bunkers, bridgework and concrete work. Overall the state of the golf course seems to be pretty positive at this time.

In other reports, Recreation Director, Bailey Hancock announced that the pool closed for the year on August 13th as did the daycamp. On August 14th, the monthly Senior lunch was held and the 13 ducks were released in the pond and all 13 are still present and accounted for. September projects include a car show September 7th from 10 to 4, the Brooklyn Cox Memorial Run will be held September 13th and the Walk for Life which will be held on September 27th.

The board gave permission for the student spirit section, “The Purple Reign”, under the direction of Lee Mateer, the use of 12 picnic tables for each home game. The tables are to be placed on the tennis courts and used to feed the spirit section. The meeting was adjourned at approximately 7:40.
