The Christian County Sheriff's Office has released details of a fatal accident Monday. Around 12:15 P.M., 911 received a call from a passerby that there had been a two vehicle traffic crash near 2600 North 1900 East Road in the Mosquito Township area.   Emergency personnel arrived on scene and one of the drivers of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.   Christian County Coroner Amy Winans arrived on scene and identified the female driver as 74-year-old Beverly Gideon of Mt. Auburn.

Christian County Sheriff’s Office, Blue Mound Fire Department, and Decatur Ambulance all responded to the scene.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Gideon was traveling west on County Road 2600 North Road in a 2011 Chevrolet passenger vehicle. Gideon reportedly failed to yield at the intersection of 1900 East Road, resulting in a crash with a 2009 Honda passenger vehicle, which was south bound on County Road 1900 East. The Honda was driven by 26-year-old Aaron M. Frieden from Blue Mound. Frieden sustained critical injuries and was taken to Springfield Memorial Trauma Center by Decatur Ambulance. The investigation revealed that Gideon was not wearing her seat belt and was ejected from her vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation by the Christian County Sheriff's Office, Illinois State Police Traffic Reconstruction Specialist, and Christian County Coroner's Office.
