Dave Ryan with the Charles J. Morgan Auld Cup
Four-time Chicago District Golfers Association Senior Player of the Year Dave Ryan captured his first CDGA Amateur Championship on Friday. The Taylorville native capped a week of stroke and match play with a 4 and 3 victory over Tom Miler of Kewanee to win the 13th CDGA Amateur Championship at Calumet Country Club. Miler was the event's three-time defending champion, and had defeated Ryan twice in the championship match.
After halving the par-3 14th hole, Ryan clinched the title on the 15th hole. Miler missed the green with his second shot, and left his chip short. Meanwhile, Ryan was on in regulation, and when his putt came within a foot of the cup, Miler conceded the hole and championship.
