Christian County Judge Brad Paisley was Tuesday's guest speaker at the weekly luncheon of the Taylorville Kiwanis Club at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital auditorium.
Paisley gave the club details on the Drug Court, which was organized by he and several others in the Christian County court system. Drug Court allows convicted felons who are willing to be held accountable in trying to turn their life around, to get their charges dropped at the end of a 30-month period.
Paisley told the Kiwanis Club that nationally, 77-percent of Drug Court graduates never get arrested again, and that benefits society as well as government in eliminating the 38-thousand-per-year cost to house an inmate in jail.
Paisley gave the stats on the Christian County Drug Court since its inception in 2011.
Drug Court in Christian County has now been expanded to Mental Health Court, and a Veterans Treatment Court. In all cases, those who participate are required to be accountable in order to help them straighten out their lives.
In other Kiwanis news, Kiwanis Park chairman Jerry Woodard announced that a spring clean-up day will be held April 29th at 2pm, with volunteers appreciated.
