The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the entire listening area thru midnight Sunday night.

The Weather Service says a winter storm will begin to affect our area late Saturday afternoon across the northwest with the snow overspreading the entire area Saturday night.

The snow will be heavy at times thru the night and especially during the day on Sunday as the storm passes to our south. The heaviest snows are expected to fall roughly along and southeast of a Taylorville to Danville line with a few locations approaching a foot of new snow by late Sunday.

Further to the northwest, 5 to 8 inches will be possible to the east of the Illinois River, with 2 to 5 inches to the west of the river. Blowing and drifting snow will impact the area later Sunday morning through Sunday night as northerly winds increase.

Wind chills will become a major threat to anyone venturing outdoors starting later Sunday and continuing through at least Tuesday morning with wind chill indices in the 30 to 40 below zero range at times.

Motorists are urged to take the necessary precautions due to these changing weather conditions. Stay tuned to Regional Radio for the latest weather information and cancellations, as well as taylorvilledailynews-dot-com and dewittdailynews-dot-com.
