National Weather Service: Up to 6 Inches On The Way

 width=

The National Weather Service in Lincoln says a strong storm system will begin to spread snow across central and southeast Illinois this (Friday) afternoon. Once the snow develops, periods of snow are expected into Saturday morning. However, the majority of the accumulation will fall late Friday afternoon and Friday night.

Most areas will see snowfall accumulation of 3-6 inches before the snow ends. However, a potential mix with sleet or freezing rain in southeast Illinois Friday afternoon and Friday evening, may reduce snow totals there.

Areas along and just east of the Mississippi River between St. Louis and Quincy, are expecting a coating of ice followed by at least 6 inches of snow. They're under a winter storm watch.

Keep aware of the latest forecasts on this approaching winter storm as the potential for higher snow totals exists in many areas.
