A three vehicle accident on Rte. 48 last evening has claimed the life of a Taylorville man.  According to the Illinois State police, the accident occurred about a half a mile south of Stonington last night at around 7:45.  Police say a car driven northbound by 43 year old Melvin R. Norris of Taylorville apparently crossed the center line on Rte. 48, striking a  southbound semi truck driven by 30 year old Derek M. Bess of Park Hills Missouri.  The 3rd vehicle, driven by 34 year old Amanda S. Swank of Stonington was struck by debris. 

Norris was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene by Christian County Coroner Amy Calvert-Winans and was also reportedly not wearing his seatbelt.  The other 2 drivers refused medical treatment.  The crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
