Family of Suicidal Inmate Files Lawsuit Against Christian County

The family of 58-year-old Dennis E. Adams has filed a lawsuit against Christian County allegedly stating that officials should have known he was suicidal and that they failed to take the proper steps to prevent him from harming himself. Adams hung himself in his cell at the Christian County jail on November 4, 2011. He had been arrested on August 19, 2011 for allegedly shooting his wife in the shoulder and fleeing the scene. He was taken into custody after a 4-hour standoff. He was later charged with two counts of attempted murder. The suit also claims that officials did not provide Adams with proper mental health treatments and evaluations despite the family warning jail officials of strange behavior and letters he had written. Christian County, Sheriff Bruce Kettelkamp, and former jail administrator Andrew Nelson have been named as defendants. The suit asks unspecified damages.
