Shelbyville Rotary Visits Bob Boarman's Automotive Museum

Reported by member Theodore Bogart

It was a hot and sunny Monday noon meeting at our new location at the Shelbyville Memorial Hospital. I would like to remind everybody that as we are adjusting to our new meeting location to take their lunch immediately upon arriving. Let's use this time to socialize while we have lunch. Once it appears that most of the members are in attendance, then I will ring the bell and call the meeting to order with the pledge of allegiance, followed by the invocation.

Our "End of Summer Boat Party" is underway. The date is Thursday September 26. The time 5:30 PM. The location, "F" Dock, at the very end of the dock. Bring your spouses and BYO. Supper will be catered by the hospital. A big "Thank You" to Mike Kiley for providing the Houseboat for the party, and for Bob Heckler and Judi Humphrey for bringing this together. There will be a nominal fee to cover the expenses-to be announced.

Halloween is drawing nearer. President-elect Kevin Ray and I are putting together this year's Halloween parade. We plan to meet with the City Council on Monday September 16 at 7 PM, to make or arrangements with the city to have the parade route begin from the Post office on Morgan Street and terminate at the Municipal Building. We still have to contact the Red-Hat Ladies, Shelbyville Marching Band, or Kerry Campbell to provide the Music and judging.

This week's "Pass the Bucks" Winner is none other than Mike Kiley, who with All the luck of the Irish won the Grand Prize of $13. Congrats Mike! Remember, the winner takes all of their winnings home to buy something nice for their spouse, and you cannot win in two consecutive meetings.

Next week, Don Behl and Brian Green may be able to bring us up-to-date with our Fall/November Winery & Ribs Party - thanks guys!

Finally, Phil Miller has answered that age-old question "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?" The wall clock looks great, Phil - thanks.

See the fire-engine-red Chevrolet Impala reportedly worth over $60,000  At the Boarman Auto Museum.

This week's program chairman was Jim Bolinger and his keynote speaker was Bob Boarman.  At the meeting, Bob told us about his automobiles that he has collected and invited us to visit his automotive Museum in downtown Shelbyville.

Bob says he averages 20 visitors a week to the museum.

Thanks Bob for allowing us to see your collection. What a great program! Attention Jim Bolinger, if Bob Boarman would like to be a member let's have you propose him to the club. Next week Brian Green is our program chairman. See you all next week at Rotary!
