Taylorville Resident to Play in State Golf Championship Thursday

Two of the state’s most decorated senior amateur golfers in the past five years will square off on Thursday in the championship match of the 12th Chicago District Golf Association Senior Amateur Championship when Tom Miler representing the Kewanee Dunes Golf Club, faces off against Dave Ryan of Taylorville representing the Piper Glen Golf Club. The match, which begins at 9 a.m. at Elgin Country Club, is a rematch of last year’s final round, which Miler won 1-up.

Miler, who is the only player to ever win the CDGA Senior twice, defeated Mark Jason representing the North Shore Country Club 3 and 2 in quarterfinals Wednesday morning, then returned in the afternoon to best Ken Larney from Calumet Country Club 5 and 4.

Ryan, a three-time CDGA Senior Player of the Year and defending CDGA Player of the Year, took down Greg Wohlford from Pontiac Elks Country Club 2 and 1 in the quarters and Tommy Robinson from Deerfield Golf Club 5 and 3 in the semifinal match.
