Over 800 people gathered at the Food-A-Rama Building on the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield on Saturday, to march in the annual Central Illinois March of Dimes March for Babies. The event is the biggest fund-raiser of the year for the March of Dimes, in their efforts to prevent birth defects and premature birth of babies.

A team headed by the Miller Media Group's Sheri Miller of Taylorville, named Team Princess Alexis in memory of Sheri's daughter who passed away 40 minutes after being born in April of 2011, was recognized as the top family fund-raiser for this year's Walk. Sheri's team raised almost 7-thousand dollars for the March of Dimes, over the past 5 months.
Sheri thanked the many people that responded to her requests for donations over the past several months.
Rachel Buraski, a volunteer for the March of Dimes, was emcee for the event, and gave participants the good news that thanks to the efforts of the March of Dimes, premature births in Illinois have gone from one in 8, to one in 9.
The March of Dimes March for Babies nets the charity over 100-million dollars annually, to help in the fight against premature birth and birth defects in babies.
