Lake Land College instructor champions for Tree Campus-USA

Lake Land College humanities instructor Tom Caldwell recently presented information about trees to local arbor enthusiasts at the annual Energy Innovation Conference.

As part of a special project to designate Lake Land as a Tree Campus-USA, Caldwell designed the session “Tree Care and the World in which We Live” to include topics such as tree selection, invasive species, the psychological benefits of trees, a cost and utility comparison, and tree care.

To earn the Tree Campus-USA designation, over the last academic year, Caldwell has led a variety of projects. These projects include removing invasive tree species and replacing them with native Illinois trees; working with students on service learning projects; and enhancing certain landscapes on campus to create wind barriers, which help to reduce energy costs.
