Mattoon Police are investigating the death of a Mattoon man Monday night. Police were called to the Toaster Bar at 7:30 Monday night after a report of an unresponsive male. Upon arrival, they found Benjamin E. Newton dead. The apparent murder is being investigated by the Mattoon Police, Coles County Coroner's Office and Coles County State's Attorney's Office. No circumstances surrounding the death have been released.
