FOLLOWUP: FAA Closing Control Towers in Bloomington-Normal, Decatur, Springfield April 7th

The Federal Aviation Administration Wednesday announced that airport control towers in Bloomington-Normal, Decatur and Springfield will be closed on April 7th, due to sequestration.

The agency Tuesday released the list of towers that could be closed, but Wednesday announced that some 173 control towers would be closed, with another 16 to be closed September 30th.

The F-A-A added that if a particular airport could make a case why their control tower should remain open, their decision could change.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says the tower closings are part of 600-million dollars that must be cut from his budget due to the mandatory federal budget cuts.
