The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the entire Regional Radio listening area until 6 o'clock Tuesday morning.
Meteorologists say a break in the snow will be followed by redevelopment overnight, with light to moderate snow expected. Snowfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches will be common across central and southeast Illinois, with 4 inches possible south and west of Springfield. The snow may mix with or change to light freezing rain south of Interstate 70 overnight with minor icing.
Snow-covered roadways will create hazardous driving conditions during the overnight hours into early Tuesday morning. Motorists are urged to use caution when driving over the New Year's holiday.
