The Christian County Economic Development Corporation had a speaker on Friday at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital Auditorium to talk to the corporation about the benefits of Tax Increment Financing or TIF.

Thomas Henderson the speaker at the event who is the Executive Director of the Illinois Tax Increment Association says that TIF’s goal is to help get more businesses into a community.

Henderson says that there are many different ways TIF can be used.

Henderson also says that Taylorville is already using the enterprise zone program which is used for economically depressed areas of the state designed to stimulate growth, but Taylorville still may be able to use TIF.

Henderson also stated in his speech to the CCEDC that the city of Springfield used TIF financing to revitalize their downtown area.
