For more than 20 years, the Project 29 organization has pushed for th eexpansion of Route 29 to four lanes between Taylorville and Springfield.

Most of the work has been completed, but a six-mile stretch remains unfinished. That final expanse is now scheduled to be widened, according to Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Patty Hornbuckle.

Hornbuckle says the widened highway will have a beneficial effect on the local economy.
