State Representative Roger Eddy supports a plan to let people smoke inside some Illinois businesses.
A proposal in Springfield would've given liquor commissioners authority to supersede the Smoke Free Illinois Act. They'd have the option to issue smoking licenses to casinos, adult entertainment venues, private clubs, and businesses that earn less than ten-percent of their income from food sales. Smoking would still be prohibited in restaurants. The proposal failed in the House yesterday.
Representative Randy Ramey says allowing some businesses to let their patrons smoke is a business friendly measure that will help them recoup some of the revenues lost from the smoking ban.
State Representative Karen Yarbrough calls a measure to allow smoking in some businesses outrageous. She says the Act is not just working, but its helping keep people healthy.
