There’s a new law on the books that effects elected officials. It involves mandatory training in the Freedom of Information and Open Meetings Act and applies to those who serve on school boards, county boards, and village boards. Aledo City Manager Terry Dove says small towns have most of 2012 to come into compliance.
Any elected or appointed official that takes office after the first of the year has 90-days to comply with the law. The training is through the Illinois Attorney General’s office. The law goes into effect January 1st.
