Late state payments are forcing one downstate agency to suspend a community outreach program that provides care to single teen parents. Erin Prevmore, with the Springfield-based Family Service Center, says she hopes lawmakers can step in to save the program before its scheduled shut down.
The programs board of directors decided to shutter the program last week and six employees will be out of work because the state is six months behind on payments. The state owes around eight-billion dollars in back payments to similar community-based agencies.
Erin Prevmore, Executive Director of Springfield-based Family Service Center, says the state's inability to pay its bills needs to be taken care of by lawmakers.
