The Cardinals avoided arbitration by signing infielder/outfielder Skip Schumaker to a two-year deal.  The 31-year-old hit .283 in 117 games last season, then batted .381 in the playoffs.  The Cardinals did not tender a contract this week to infielder Ryan Theriot, who is now a free agent.  Theriot hit .271 last season and was arbitration eligible.
