Prairie Heart Institute Held Their Annual Stat Heart Round Table Dinner

The Prairie Heart Institute of Springfield held their annual Stat Heart Round Table Dinner at the Crowne Plaza on November 3rd in Springfield.  Pana Community Hospital in cooperation with Pana Ambulance Service and Dave Burkham were recognized at the event for the hospital’s Stat Heart “door in-door out time.”  From the time a patient arrives to the Pana Community Hospital Emergency Department with heart attack symptoms to the time the patient departs for transport to Springfield is a critical time.  This is the “door in-door out time”.

Pana Hospital teamed up with Prairie Cardiovascular Consultants and St. John’s and Memorial hospitals in Springfield in July of 2005 to activate the Stat Heart Program.  The program was developed by Prairie Care Alliance to partner with community hospitals to transfer the patient for treatment by an experienced Prairie cardiologist in Springfield safely and faster than in the past and within the acceptable time frame.

Here is how the program works.  Upon diagnosis, the Pana Stat Heart team is activated.  This includes lab, cardiopulmonary, diagnostic imaging and emergency department staff and physician.  A call is made to transfer the patient (usually by helicopter) and the Stat Heart team at either St. John’s or Memorial Medical Hospital is activated.  A team of experts will be briefed on the incoming patient’s symptoms and results of preliminary tests and will be ready and waiting for the patient in Springfield.
