Christian County Court Cases 05/23/2023

The following court cases was heard on May 23rd, 2023:

 

Joshua Bland: Defendant present with Public Defender and State's Attorney present. By agreement, pretrial hearing continued to 6-23-23 at 10 a.m. 5-25-23 hearing vacated.

 

Andrew Calvert: Defendant present with Public Defender and State's Attorney present. By agreement, pretrial hearing continued to 6-27-23 at 10 a.m. State to make revised offer after dismissing one of the pending charges.

 

Kevin Carrell: Defendant present with Public Defender and State's Attorney present. Case called for preliminary hearing. Officer sworn and testifies. Court finds probable cause. Defendant waives arraignment, pleads not guilty and demands trial by jury. By agreement, final pretrial hearing scheduled for at 7-25-23 at 1:15 p.m. Jury trial scheduled for 8-7-23 at 8:30 a.m. Both hearings are in person. Parties ordered to file pretrial motions at least 30 days before the jury trial to be heard at the final pretrial hearing. Trial in abstentia admonition given. State granted leave to amend the charge by interlineation to allege failure to register within 3 days of changing addresses. Hearing on Defendant's bond reduction motion set in person 5-30-23 at 10 a.m.

 

Dean Ellis: Defendant present with Public Defender and State's Attorney present. By agreement, pretrial hearing continued to 6-27-23 at 10 a.m. Negotiations ongoing. State indicates it will revoke current offer if not accepted at the next pretrial hearing.

 

Steven Frazier: Defendant present with Public Defender and State's Attorney present. By agreement, on the petition to revoke scheduled for in person hearing on 6-30-23 at 11 a.m.

 

John Hott Jr.: Parties present by counsel. Status on sentencing set for 6-26-23 at 10 a.m. Notice to Appear to be issued.

 

Patricia Hornbuckle:  Defendant appears via Zoom with Attorney Erickson, State’s Attorney McWard also appears. On petition to modify bond to allow the Defendant to leave the state; State’s Attorney McWard objects and arguments are made via proofer. Defendant is allowed to leave the state of Illinois and go to the state of California as dictated in her written motion. Question of who is representing the State is still at question. State’s Attorney McWard indicates he is still trying to transfer this case to OSAP. The defendant waives the right to a speedy preliminary hearing; matter reset for Status Hearing on 5-23-23 at 1:00 p.m.

1:00 p.m. UPDATE

Special Prosecutor Kurtz is present; Defendant’s Attorney Erickson does not appear. Rest matter to 6-2-23 at 11:00 a.m.

 

Jacob Krouse: Defendant present in custody with PD Senger and State's Attorney present. Case called for category B bail review. Proffer made. Arguments heard. Defendant has 12 days of credit today or $360. Bond reduced to $10,000. He would need to post $640 today and it shall go down by $30 per day thereafter. Defendant ordered as a condition of release to have no contact with Frank Sedlock by any means.

 

Drakeem Manning: Defendant present with Public Defender Grigsby and State's Attorney present. Case called for preliminary hearing. Officer sworn and testifies. Court finds probable cause. Defendant waives arraignment, pleads not guilty and demands trial by jury. Pretrial hearing and hearing on any bond motions scheduled for 5-26-23 at 10 a.m.

 

Charles Peterson: Defendant present with Public Defender and State's Attorney present. By agreement, pretrial hearing continued to 6-30-23 at 10 a.m. Writ to issue.

 

Justin Pickrell: Defendant present with Public Defender and State's Attorney present. By agreement, case continued for presentation of negotiated plea on 6-30-23 at 10 a.m. Defendant has accepted State's plea offer.

 

Nathan Redman: Parties present by counsel. Defendant fails to appear and may be in the Montgomery County jail. Video writ to issue for 7-10-23 at 10 a.m.

 

Ashley Rockford: Defendant present with Public Defender and State's Attorney present. Negotiated plea presented and approved by the Court, whereby Defendant pleads guilty to the charge of possession of methamphetamine. No judgment of conviction entered. By agreement, Defendant sentenced to two years first offender probation and she is ordered to pay the fine assessments as set the financial sentencing order. Bond from case 21-CM-136 is ordered to be transferred and applied. Petition for waiver granted. Defendant ordered released from custody and to immediate report to the probation department. Pay or appear hearing scheduled for 8-2-23 at 9 a.m.

 

Cale Sexson: Defendant present in person and in custody with Assistant Public Defender Grigsby and State's Attorney present. After admonishment, Defendant enters an open admission to the petition to revoke. The parties do not have an agreement as to sentencing. Probation Department ordered to prepare pre-sentence investigation report. In person sentencing hearing scheduled for 7-31-23 at 1:15 p.m. Defendant admonished regarding sentencing in his absence. Defendant to file bond reduction motion which is scheduled for hearing on 5-26-23 at 10 a.m.

 

Brett Walker: Defendant present with counsel and State's Attorney present. By agreement, final pretrial hearing scheduled for 10-24-23 at 1:15 p.m. Jury trial scheduled for 11-6-23 at 8:30 a.m. Both hearings are in person. Parties ordered to file pretrial motions at least 30 days before the jury trial to be heard at the final pretrial hearing. Trial in abstentia admonition given. All other pending matters are set for pretril hearing hearing with the final pretrial hearing.

 

Nathan Wiseman: Defendant present with Public Defender and State's Attorney present. By agreement, pretrial hearing continued to 7-14-23 at 10 a.m. in person. State has answered discovery and made plea offer. Defendant to schedule appointment.
