The Taylorville girls basketball team breezed past Charleston 50-30 on Tuesday night. The Tornadoes led wire-to-wire to snap a seven-game home losing run.
Charleston fought back from early possession struggles to pull the game to within three in the first quarter. That's when Taylorville began to connect and did not look back. In addition, they more and more effectively shut down the Trojans, limiting them to three points in the third quarter.
Both teams had trouble taking care of the ball, but Charleston especially, including in their own half. Peyton DeMichael forced several of the turnovers, especially in the early stages. The Tornadoes did not shoot well from the free-throw line, going 6-18.
Baileigh Jackson earned the title of Chill Nicole Patrick Country Financial Player of the Game with 21 points. Grace Rogers added 13. For Charleston, the 20 points from Sadie Phillips and 10 from McKaylee Patton accounted for all of their scoring.
Taylorville is now at 8-19 overall and 4-4 in the conference. They next face Mattoon on Friday at home, with commentary on 96.5 The Chill. Charleston drops to 4-21 overall and 0-8 in the Apollo Conference, with a trip to Robinson next.
