The Taylorville girls basketball team suffered a fourth straight defeat away to Lanphere, 61-50. The Tornadoes never led in the game but made formidable attempts in the even-numbered quarters to pull level.
Lanphere doubled up on Taylorville in the first quarter, leading 18-9, but the Tornadoes pulled to within four with a good start to the second. Threes from Lanphere's Lovely Jackson and Amiyah Jarrett set the Lions loose, and they built the lead from there.
Taylorville entered the fourth quarter down 16 but cut the margin in half by forcing turnovers and converting. The home side eventually found their footing and pulled too far away for the Tornadoes to catch up.
Baileigh Jackson was named the Chill Nicole Patrick Country Financial Player of the Game with 11 points, including consistent finishes from the baseline. Grace Rogers finished with 10. On Lanphier's side, Amiyah Jarrett and Alayah Jarrett each had 19 points, with 17 scored by Lovely Jackson.
Taylorville drops to 3-5 and must turn its attention to Thursday's home matchup against Pleasant Plains. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m., and live commentary will be available on 96.5 The Chill. Lanphier makes the short trip to Springfield Southeast for its next game.
