Heimsness Hits 1,000 As Tornadoes Dominate Charleston

The Taylorville Tornadoes welcomed the Charleston Trojans to town on Friday night but didn't give them a warm reception as the Tornadoes won 53-22, but that wasn't the story of the night.  Kyleigh Heimsness hit a three 7 seconds into the game and Taylorville and more importantly, Heimsness, would never look back.  Heimsness would need 20 points to hit the 1,000 point mark and when the dust settled at the end of the first quarter, Kyleigh already had 19 including five 3 pointers. Tornadoes led at the end of the first 29-6.  Kyleigh would than bank in a three with 7:37 left in the second quarter to reach the 1,000 point mark. Leroy Kleimola was on the call.

Heimsness finished with eight 3 pointers and 30 points total in the game. The Tornadoes would lead 40-12 at the end of halftime and have running clock through the second half.  Taylorville improves to 12-7 on the season.  Charleston falls to 2-17.  Heimsness says that getting that first three was a huge step in the right direction.  She praised her teammates.

Taylorville will face Alton (19-1) on the road on January 23rd in a rematch as both teams faced each other in 7th grade in the playoffs for a trip to the state championship.  Taylorville girls would finish third that season.

Heimsness was named the Nicole Patrick Country FInancial Player of the game. Heimsness joins Mazie Fleming and Addison Tarr as the 15th girls basketball player to hit 1,000 in school history.
