LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Posted February 10, 2020
Dear Editor:
My friend Lawrence Oliver is running to become the Republican representative of the 95th district. After we waived bye bye to Pat Quinn. Rauner appointed several yes girls to the House of Representatives. Exactly the kind of people wealthy donors and party leaders can control.
Governor Rauner thought everything wrong here was the fault of Chicago and Madigan. But for two and a half years we had no budget and because the nattering lasted so long we ended up $15 Billion deeper in avoidable debt. It only needed some Republicans to stand on their hind legs and say we need a budget, even if that budget is not perfect, because without a budget every signed state contract gets paid late and the later it is the more interest gets paid.
Avery Bourne made no protest and happily went down the road of ever increasing debt.
Reelected she raised your gas tax and license fees and trailer fees to help pay off that debt. Improving our infrastructure and paying off debt are worthy goals. However, achieving those goals by instating regressive taxes which burden the most vulnerable in the State is nothing less than an admission that she utterly failed to meet her most basic obligation.
We deserve to be represented by people with the back bone to do or say the right thing. Lawrence Oliver follows his conscience and looks for pragmatic ways to make things work. He is your kind of guy. Vote for him and find him on Facebook to learn how to help him and others like him make the state of Illinois work again.
