Phyllis Rosalie Gorden, 92, of Taylorville passed away at 12:42 a.m. on Friday, November 15, 2019 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. She was born on August 16, 1927 in Taylorville, the daughter of William R. and Mildred G. (Followell) Shivers. Rosalie graduated from Taylorville High School with the class of 1945. She married E.O. Duncan and they later divorced. She married Richard Fore and he preceded her in death and later married Haldon Gorden who also preceded her in death. Rosalie was a member of the Taylorville First United Methodist Church and an auxiliary member of the Moose Lodge, VFW, and American Legion. She enjoyed traveling, especially to visit family in Myrtle Beach and several winters spent in Mission, Texas. Rosalie was an avid card player throughout her life and had a passion for playing poker. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends in her home.
Rosalie is survived by her daughter: Cheryl Huggins (Jay) of Taylorville; granddaughter: Susan Huggins of Downers Grove; step-son: Richard Fore of Pana; step-grandchildren: Rick Fore of Pana, Michelle Larson (Jeff) of Escondido, California, and Jonathan Fore of Mobile, Alabama; 3 step-great grandsons and 1 step-great granddaughter; sister: JoAnn Newland of Decatur; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 husbands; and sisters: Jean Kallal and Mary Joye.
The funeral service for Rosalie will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at the Taylorville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Becky Lembke officiating. Burial will follow at Anderson Cemetery in Palmer. Visitation will take place from 4 until 6 p.m. on Monday at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville. Memorials may be left to the Cornerstone Campaign at the First United Methodist Church or to the Christian County Animal Control. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services is handling arrangements.
