48 year old Garret L. Austin of Ramsey was arrested on Saturday for operating a boat while under the influence of alcohol.

25 year old Hannah F. Banyai of Mattoon was arrested on Monday for theft as well as criminal trespass.

22 year old Randy L. Vail of Taylorville was arrested on Sunday for domestic battery.

26 year old Kyle Greer of Taylorville was arrested on Sunday for domestic battery.

29 year old Ethan W. Alberts of Taylorville was arrested on Saturday for violation of an order of protection.

19 year old Dustin J. Benedict of Edinburg was arrested on Saturday on a bond forfeiture warrant for issuance of warrant. Bond was set at $50,000.

On 5/28/2016, 67 year old Rex N. Montgomery of Taylorville  was traveling west on route 29 and was entering the intersection of route 29 and route 104 in a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan. 17 year old Danielle L. Zippay of Raymond was on route 104 in a 2005 Pontiac 4 Door and was trying to turn west onto route 29. Zippay did not yield to Montgomery, causing a collision. Both vehicles were able to drive away from the scene.

ACCIDENTS:

On 5/23/16 at 1:49 PM, officers responded to a two vehicle accident at Cheney and Prairie. 16 year old Carson R. Heberling of Taylorville stated she stopped at the stop sign in a 2007 Chevrolet Aveo, and saw 77 year old Ruth A. Canfield of Taylorville who was driving a 2014 Nissan Murano stop as well. Heberling stated she proceeded through the intersection and was struck by Canfield. Canfield stated she stopped and proceeded and was struck by Heberling. Heberling stated when she saw Canfield proceed she sped up to avoid getting struck but was struck anyway. Heberling was more than half way through the intersection when the accident occurred. Heberling spun around after getting struck by Canfield, and Heberling went over the curbing causing damage to the front driver side tire rim. Canfield's vehicle had front end damage and Heberling's vehicle had passenger rear door and quarter panel damage and damage to the driver front tire rim. Canfield driver was issued a citation for failed to yield/stop or yield intersection. No injuries were reported.

On 5/25/16, 58 year old Brenda F. Watkins of Harvel was traveling west on Spresser Street in a 2001 Chrysler Town and Country, and was approaching the intersection of Spresser and Shumway Streets. 39 year old Teresa M. McGuire of Palmer was northbound on Shumway Street and stopped at the same intersection in a 2011 Nissan Armada. Watkins advised that they went through the intersection, the light was yellow, and then red. McGurie was turning right onto Spresser Street, with a green light, and was struck by Watkins. Both vehicles were able to leave the secene.

ACCIDENTS:

On 5/25/16 39 year old Richard S. Willis Jr. was traveling northwest on Illinois Rt. 29 in a 2003 GMC Yukon XL. At approximately 1850 North, a deer came into the roadway and Willis struck the deer with the front end of the vehicle. Willis' vehicle had damage to the front end of the vehicle. Willis' vehicle was not towed by a tow company, and was picked up at a later time by the owner. All occupants in Willis' vehicle were unhurt.

74 year old Herbert H. Steincamp of Stonington said that he was having trouble seeing because of the sun in his and struck the back of 32 year old Alexis M. Lashbrook of Taylorville. Lashbrook was stopped to make a left turn onto S. Cherokee St. Witnesses said that Lashbrook was stopped and had it’s turn signal activated. Steinkamp was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

ACCIDENTS

On 5/17/16 16 year old Elizabeth I. Walton was traveling south on Main Street in a 1999 Toyota Camry, and approached the intersection of Main and Vine Streets. 16 year old Albina Letnila of Taylorville was traveling west on Vine Street in a 2010 Mercedes E350, and did not yield to Walton, causing a collision. Walton had to be towed from the scene.

On 5/17/16 77 year old Irene A. Kowalski of Pana was traveling west on Park Street in a 2012 Nissan Cube, and had slowed for traffic at the intersection of Park and Cherokee Streets. 17 year old Tyler R. Brandy of Bulpitt, who was behind Kowalski in a 2003 Ford Truck, was not able to stop in time and struck Kowalski, causing damage. Both vehicles were able to drive away from the scene.

Fiaoni of Taylorville who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. Fiaoni tried to stop, however was unable to avoid striking Moma’s vehicle.

ACCIDENTS:

On 5/18/2016 officers were dispatched to Rt. 29 at East Main Cross. Upon arrival officers made contact with 18 year old Kaycee L. Robinson of Taylorville. She was visibly upset and shaken. She said she tried to stop her 2005 Toyota Corolla, but skidded on the wet road way and an object. There were multiple square carpet tiles in the roadway. Robinson skidded and rear ended 45 year old Vern D. Owens of Taylorville’s 2011 Toyota Tundra. Robinson’s vehicle sustained major front end damage and Owen’s vehicle had minimal damage. Owens requested that Robinson be issued a citation due to the fact of the weather. No injuries were reported.

Johnson of Edinburg was southeastbound on Old IL. Rt. 29 in a 2010 Nissan Altima. Broccardo stated that she did not see any vehicle and began crossing Old IL. Rt. 29. Johnson stated that he was Southeastbound and when he got to Washington St., Broccardo pulled out and struck him. No injuries were reported.

56 year old Hoy D. Copelin of Edinburg was arrested on Friday on a bond forfeiture warrant for issuance of warrant. Bond was set at $2500.

ACCIDENTS

51 year old Kelly S. Perkins of Kincaid  was north bound on County Highway 5 approximately 1/10th of a mile north of 1975 North Road when her 2013 Toyota Camry got into the gravel on the right shoulder. Perkins traveled 14 feet along the shoulder before leaving the roadway and going into the right ditch. Perkins traveled 45 feet in the ditch coming to a stop facing north.

53 year old Steve G. Sharer of Taylorville  was stopped in the middle of the intersection in a 2008 Buick Lacrosse, waiting to turn left. Sharer stated the light had turned red, and he went to make a left turn to get out of the intersection. 25 year old Hillary M. McDevitt of Effingham and Sharer collided in the intersection. McDevitt stated she believed the light was still yellow when she went through the intersection. There were no independent witnesses that came forward with information in regards to which driver had the right of way. Both vehicles were towed due to damage.

ACCIDENTS:

60 year old Mary L. Schneider of Pana was eastbound on township road 250 N in a 2000 Ford Explorer. Schneider lost control of the vehicle striking the ditch causing the vehicle to roll over onto it’s side. Schneider was unable to get out of the vehicle, and had to be cut out of the vehicle by the Pana Fire Department. Schneider was issued three citations.

On 5/11/16 officers were dispatched to the 200 block of North Houston for a single vehicle rollover. Upon arrival it was apparent a 2003 Toyota Camry had struck a fire hydrant and was laying on it’s side. No driver of the vehicle was on the scene. The fire hydrant was out of the ground and water was running into the street. Officers later located 21 year old Brandon R. McCaughn of Taylorville and placed him under arrest for leaving the scene of an accident and driving under the influence of alcohol. He was also cited for improper lane usage.

ACCIDENTS

36 year old Aimee D. Beck of Mt. Auburn was driving eastbound on county highway #2 in a 2006 Jeep Wrangler. Just west of township road 1730 east, a deer ran into the path of Beck’s vehicle. Beck was unable to avoid striking the deer. The crash caused damage to the front end of Beck’s vehicle. No injuries were reported.

76 year old Earl A. Walters of Taylorville, driving a 2009 Ford Edge stated he was turning left onto W. Poplar from N. Webster. Walters said he was looking at McClure Funeral Home and cut the corner too sharp running into the front end of 56 year old Rohn L. Burke who was driving a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria. Burke said he was stopped at the stop sign on the corner of W. Poplar and N. Webster facing East going to turn right. Walter's vehicle received front end damage and was towed from the scene. Burke's vehicle received front end damage and was drove from the scene.

ACCIDENTS:

31 year old Rachel S. Duncan of Taylorville was traveling eastbound on West Main Cross in a 2003 Chevrolet Trail Blazer. Duncan's vehicle left the roadway on the left side, and drove through the yard of 1301 West Main Cross. Duncan then crashed into the front steps and bushes infront of the home, and was found stumbling around her vehicle. Duncan admitted to drinking 4 shots earlier in the night. The initial caller stated that Duncan was attempting to leave the scene but their vehicle was stuck. Caller was not on scene when officers arrived. Report of attempting to flee was validated by the back passenger tire being elevated off the ground and the tread being completely worn. There was also a strong scent of burnt rubber in the air at the accident.

On 5/7/16 36 year old Jeremy D. Auten of Mt. Zion was atraveling northeast on IL Route 48 in a 2008 Toyota Van. At approximately 580 north, a deer came onto the roadway. Auten tried to avoid the deer but struck the deer with the front, passenger side. 34 year old Tina L. Scott of Palmer who was driving a 2011 GMC Acadia was in the southbound lane and tried to correct into the northbound lane causing Auten to turn sideways across the southbound lane. Scott was travelling southwest on il rt 48. When Auten came into Scott's lane, Scott tried to avoid the crash but struck Auten in the back drivers side with it’s front, drivers side. Auten spun back around and came to a rest facing the southeast in the west ditch. Scott came to rest on the roadway. Auten's vehicle had 5 occupants and all were unhurt. Scott's vehicle had two occupants and all were unhurt. Auten had adamage on the front, passenger side and rear, drivers side. Scott had damage to the front, drivers side. Taylorville Towing towed both vehicles from the scene.

ACCIDENTS:

27 year old Colt A. Stephens of Morrisonville was travelling north east on IL Route 48 at about 1050 East in a 1995 Acura Integra. Stephens lost control and went off the north side of the roadway and traveled into the ditch. Stephens hit a culvert and then traveled out of control over the culvert. Stephens again hit the ditch causing more damage. The driver refused medical treatment, but had the passenger transported to Taylorville Hospital for evaluation. The driver was issued citations. Kertows was contacted to tow Stephen's vehicle.

23 year old Stanley K. Desart of Taylorville was traveling south on 400 East Rd in a 2013 Dodge Charger, and came upon a sharp curve in the roadway at 1275 east road. Desart was traveling too fast for conditions and was unable to stay on the roadway and struck the ditch embankment. Desart's vehicle receieved front passenger side damage.
