Nova L. Wingo

Nova L. Wingo, 88, of Taylorville, IL, passed away at 2:56 a.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville, IL.

Nova was born February 13, 1930 in Cabool, MO, the daughter of Ernest and Celeste Hale. She married Paul E. Wingo on April 16, 1953 in Omaha, NE. He preceded her in death on October 4, 1994.

Nova graduated from high school in Cabool, MO, and went on to obtain a degree from business school. She worked for an insurance company when she and Paul lived in Omaha, NE, but was a homemaker, raising their 6 kids for most of her life. Nova was a crafty woman, making anything you can imagine out of just about anything. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and jigsaw puzzles. Nova was a long-time member of the Eagles Club 1425. She was beloved mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Dale Wingo; granddaughter, Kimberly Daniels; brother, Dillard Hale; and sister, Edna Bauman.

Nova is survived by her children, Janice Schuyler of Taylorville, IL, Patricia (Ronald) Hall of Taylorville, IL, Denis (Cathy) Wingo of Elgin, IL, Mike Wingo of Island Lake, IL, and Gail (Mark) Richards of Edinburg, IL; 10 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; sister, Barbara (Dale) Stuart of Pennsylvania; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins

Visitation & Funeral Ceremony: The family will receive guests from 10:00 a.m. until the time of ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home, 202 W. Franklin St., Taylorville, IL 62568, with Pastor Gerald McPhillips officiating.

Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL.

Mose C. Joseph Jr

Mose C. Joseph Jr., 54 of Moweaqua passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at 9:48 a.m. at his residence in Moweaqua. He was born on August 20, 1964 in Spokane Washington, the son of Mose C. and Sallyann (Stansbury) Joseph. He was a chief in the Colville Tribe in Nespelam, WA.

He is survived by his Son: Moses C. Joseph III of Morrisonville, IL. He was preceded in death by his Parents.

Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with pastor Don Bettis officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

JoAnn Parker

JoAnn Parker, 79, of Chatham, IL, formerly of Taylorville, IL, passed away at 8:04 a.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

JoAnn was born September 14, 1939 in Nokomis, IL, the daughter of William Eugene and Sarah Kathryn (Caulk) Mayberry. She married John Haldon Parker on February 25, 1992 in Las Vegas, NV.

JoAnn graduated from Morrisonville High School in 1959, and then graduated from George’s Beauty School in Springfield, IL. She owned JoAnn’s Beauty Salon for over 30 years, and was a part-time realtor for Craggs Realtors for many years. She was a long-time member of Davis Memorial Christian Church, and a current member of Rochester Christian Church. In her younger years, JoAnn was an avid golfer, and she always enjoyed her trips to Las Vegas, but her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and daughter-in-law, Korby Herzog.

JoAnn is survived by her husband, John H. Parker of Chatham, IL; children, James Bradley Herzog of Pawnee, IL, Brett Allen (wife, Darci) Herzog of Morris, IL, and Bridgett Elise (husband, Aaron) Wake of Springfield, IL; grandchildren, Brittney (husband, Rick) Keafer of Kincaid, IL, Kira (fiancé, Derek Samson) Herzog of Edinburg, IL, Karlee (fiancé, Joshua McCollum) Herzog of Paris, IL, Hunter Herzog of Pawnee, IL, Zachary Bonnell of North Aurora, IL, and Lauren and Brianna Wake of Springfield, IL; 8 great grandchildren; siblings, Sandy (husband, Paul) Miles of Springfield, IL, Karen (husband, Joe) Spurgeon of Morrisonville, IL, and Billy (wife, Linda) Mayberry of Decatur, IL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation & Funeral Ceremony: The family will receive guests from 10:00 a.m. until the time of ceremony at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 21, 2019 at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home, 202 W. Franklin St., Taylorville, IL 62568, with Pastor Brad Ferris officiating.

Interment will follow at Morrisonville Cemetery in Morrisonville, IL.

Victoria Carolyn Graham, 70 of Taylorville passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 8:45 p.m. at her home in Taylorville, IL. She was born on October 18, 1948 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of Duane and Jacqueline (Knott) Tolliver. She married John Graham on January 13, 1968 in Stonington, IL. Vicky retired from ADM as a lab tech in Taylorville, IL. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved going to the races every weekend.

She is survived by her Husband: John Graham of Taylorville, IL; Son: John Graham Jr. of Pontiac, IL; Daughter: Jacqueline Graham of Herrick, IL; Grandchildren: Danielle Graham, Brittney Carlock and James Carlock all of Herrick, IL and Shelby Graham of Lubbock, Texas; Great-Grandchildren: Wyatt and Alayna Dixon, Ayden, Easton and Stetson Carlock; Brother: David Tolliver of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; Sister: Christine Newberry of Ocala, FL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. Paul Randolph Kriener

Paul Randolph Kriener, 73 of Taylorville passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 1:57 p.m. at his home in Taylorville, IL. He was born on April 17, 1945 in Springfield, IL the son of Harold Willard and Gwendolyn Lorraine (Betcher) Kriener. Paul was a carpenter for local 16 for 18 years and he was later a self-employed carpenter.
He is survived by his Sons: Michael (Kim) Kriener of Dawson, IL; Richard (Breclyn) Kriener of Jacksonville, FL; Brian (Melissa) Kriener of Taylorville, IL; Cory (Barbara) Kriener of Panama City Beach, FL; Daughter: Tawny (Joshua) Massey of Taylorville, IL; Grandchildren: Sebastian, Samantha, Mikalaney, Dominic, Ricky, Rylee, Landon, Andrew, Abigail, Samuel, Arthur, Nicole, Makenzie, Natalie, Paxton, Parkur and 2 more granddaughters due in June; Brother: Bill Kriener of Springfield, IL; Sister: Carol Hurley of Springfield, IL; his beloved dog Burrito and  Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. Thomas “Tom” Barton, 65 of Taylorville passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. He was born on January 3, 1954 in Springfield, IL the son of Floyd and Lorene (Reed) Barton. He married Melinda Ryan on October 7, 1978 in Springfield. Tom retired as a mechanic from Springfield Mass Transit.

Martha "June" Miller Sullivan Crockett

Martha “June” Miller Sullivan Crockett, 99, of Shelbyville, Illinois, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 12, 2019.  

June was born June 15, 1919, in Sullivan, the daughter of Roy and Nonia (Adams) Miller.  June and John L. Sullivan were married on March 24, 1940 in Shelbyville and he preceded her in death on September 25, 1996.  She then married John “Junior” Crockett on June 7, 2000 in Shelbyville and he preceded her in death on June 16, 2002.  

June worked as an LPN at various heath care facilities through the years.  She did not let her age slow her down, she was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Shelbyville, volunteered at the Shelby County Senior Center, played music with various local groups, never missed an election, was active on all the current affairs and was proud to still be driving at 99 years of age.  She was honored to have been chosen as the Shelby County Volunteer of the Year in 2006.  She also enjoyed bowling, knitting and crocheting.  

Surviving are daughters: Nona (Richard) Sullivan Jones of Downers Grove and Cathy Thomas of Shelbyville; daughter-in-law, Lila Sullivan of Shelbyville; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  

Preceding her in death were her parents, five brothers, one sister, two husbands and son, John Sullivan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Shelbyville with Father Marianna Sathuluri officiating.  Burial will take place in Glenwood Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.  Memorials may be made in her name to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or Camp New Hope, 1364 County Road 100 East, Neoga, Illinois, 62447.  Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville is assisting the family.

Stephanie Lynn Whitehead

Stephanie Lynn Whitehead, 37, of Taylorville passed away at 8:25p.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She was born on January 26, 1981, the daughter of Scott P. and Debbra S. (McWhorter) Whitehead. Stephanie enjoyed puzzles, babysitting her nieces and nephews, playing games on her phone, watching Disney movies, attending concerts, and was a fan of wrestling, and the St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers. Above all she cherished time spent with her family.

 

She is survived by her fiancé: Derek A. Skinner of Taylorville; mother: Debbra S. Heckwine of Taylorville; father: Scott Whitehead (Michelle) of Mason City; step-sons: Joseph Skinner, Chance Skinner, and Bently Skinner; grandmothers: Barbara McWhorter of Taylorville and Myrna Whitehead of Mt. Auburn; sister: Stacey Whitehead (James Denton) of Taylorville; brother: Dustin Whitehead (Leann Coley) of Lincoln; half-sister: Avari Purcell (Chris Pullium) of Decatur; nieces and nephews: Chase Denton, Brennan Whitehead, Kyleigh Whitehead, Lexi Whitehead, and Liam Whitehead; and step-brother: Tucker Biesenthal (Hannah Rawls) of Collinsville. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers: Albert McWhorter and Norman Whitehead; aunt: Peggy Habian; and cousin: Rob Wilson.

 

The funeral service for Stephanie will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Visitation will be from 6 until 8p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

She was born on July 28, 1948 in Chicago, IL the daughter of Clarence and Helen (Grosenheider) Hayes. She worked as a secretary at Sangamon Card Company and later as an LPN at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. Barb was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville, IL.

She is survived by her Son: Kevin (Kristen) Hayes of Taylorville, IL; Grandchildren: Kalee (Alan) Johnstone, Clayton, Kori and Sydnie Hayes; Great-Grandson: Lorenzo Johnstone; Brother: Jim (Geraldine) Hayes of San Bernardino, CA; Mark (Rhonda) Hayes of Greenville, IL; Brian (Kristy) Hayes of Nokomis, IL; Sister: Marilyn (Ron) Garmon of Taylorville, IL; Goddaughter: Shannon (Garmon) Bates; Several Nieces, Nephews and Great-Nieces and Great-Nephews. James Leo Cassidy

James Leo Cassidy, 90 of Keyesport, IL (formerly of Nokomis, IL) passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 9:00 a.m.at his residence. He was born on June 29, 1928 in Rountree Township in Nokomis, IL the son of Leo and Pauline (Gearhard) Cassidy. He married Juanita Fern Neisler on November 15, 1947 in Mayfield, KY. James worked as a farmer, was a truck driver for over 45 yrs and was the owner of Jim’s Bike Shop in Nokomis. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Nokomis, as well as the American Farm Heritage Museum and was a proud BMX Team Sponsor for Jim’s Bike Shop. James enjoyed being a vendor for everything from antiques to produce to bicycles and he loved to collect toy tractors and Anheuser-Busch memorabilia.

He is survived by his wife Juanita of Keyesport, IL: Son James Bradley Cassidy of Nokomis, IL. Grandchildren Jacqueline Sue Garvey (husband Mark) of Columbia, MO and Jason Leo Cassidy of St. Louis, MO. Great Grandchildren: August Leo Garvey of Columbia, MO and Autumn Patricia Garvey also of Columbia, MO. Nieces and Nephews: Craig Cassidy, Karen (husband Ivan) Benning, Carol (husband Jim) Hempen and Cathy (husband Dave) Vincent. Sister-in-law: Jeanette Cassidy. James was preceded in death by his parents and brother Lynis Cassidy.

Aurelia “Rhea” Bogusz, 63 of Taylorville, IL passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 2:18 p.m. at her daughters’ home in Riverton, IL. She was born on June 29, 1955 in Springfield, IL the daughter of Wayne and Doris (Wilkins) Hendricks. She married Walter Bogusz on September 23, 1977 in Springfield, IL and he preceded her in death on August 31, 2014. She worked as a CNA at St. Vincent Hospital in Taylorville, IL.

She is survived by her Sons: Mike Bogusz of Springfield, IL; Daughters: Staci Coady of Riverton, IL; Grandchildren: Alex, Griffin, and Emma Jean; Sisters: Theresa (John) Throop Springfield, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. Nicholas R. Ward

Nicholas R. Ward, 71, of Taylorville passed away at 1:52a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital E.R. He was born on June 12, 1947 in Taylorville, the son of William and Emma (Smuck) Ward. He married Sandra D. Lawyer on November 10, 1972 in Edinburg. Nick was an Air Force Veteran having served during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Taylorville School District where he worked for many years as a custodian. Nick was extremely skilled with his hands, having worked several jobs including welding, steelworker, and maintenance at Georgia Pacific. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. Nick enjoyed playing and coaching softball and also served as a coach for baseball and JFL, Boy Scout Leader, and Hunter Safety Instructor. He loved to read and study the bible and also enjoyed watching and reading westerns and listening to Elvis and Johnny Cash. Nick never knew a stranger and always enjoyed visiting with friends near and far. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Pana where he proudly served as an Ordained Deacon.

Nick is survived by his wife: Sandy Ward of Taylorville; sons: Scott Ward (Bobbi) of Stonington and Jared Ward (Stephanie Buchholz) of Taylorville; grandchildren: Quintin Ward, Allison Bell (Justin), Gabriel Shanks, Sophia Ward, Ashlynn Shanks, Jordan King, Lexie King, Bryce Jones, Izabella Brown, Seth Ward, and Christine Criswell; and brother: Bill Ward (Annette) of Finley. He was preceded in death by his parents, and son: Adam J. Ward.

The funeral service for Nick will be held at 11:00a.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the Hopewell Baptist Church (South Route 51, Pana) with Pastor John Largent officiating. Burial will take place at the Anderson Cemetery outside of Palmer. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7p.m. Wednesday at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville and from 10a.m. until 11a.m. Thursday in the church.

Donald L. Hooper

Donald L. Hooper, 87 of Edinburg passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 11:32 a.m. at Heritage Health Care Hospice in Springfield, IL. He was born on September 7, 1931 in Buckhart TWP in Christian County, IL the son of Arthur Thomas and Nellie Mae (Reller) Hooper. He married Rosalie Hunsley on May 31, 1952 on the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland and she preceded him in death on February 22, 2004. He then married Loril Woolridge on May 5, 2015 in Bethel Church in Rural Sharpsburg. Don was a lifetime farmer and a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Farm Bureau and Prime Timers. He was a veteran in the United States Army serving from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict being stationed in Germany where he worked on tanks and 6 bys.

He is survived by his Wife: Loril Woolridge of Edinburg, IL; Son: Larry Hooper of Taylorville; Daughters: Debra Hooper of Taylorville; Beverly Hooper and Companion Scott Campbell of Stonington and Jennifer Hooper-Klotz of Edinburg; Eight Grandchildren; Eight Great-Grandchildren; Five Great-Great-Grandchildren; Five Stepchildren; Seventeen Step Grandchildren; Twenty-one Step Great grandchildren; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Wife, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in rural Sharpsburg, IL with Pastor Steve Robinson and the Honorable Judge Ron Spears officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Rural Sharpsburg with military graveside honors.

Helen Huber

Helen Huber, 86 of Nokomis, IL passed away on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 1:22 p.m. at Life’s Journey Senior Living Center in Taylorville. She was born on January 4, 1933 in Morrisonville, IL the daughter of Edward and Mary (Farley) Clavin. She married Donald Huber on October 15, 1955 in Nokomis, IL. Helen was a homemaker and was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis, the CCW, Forester’s, Parents Club, Alter Society, St. Louis Catholic Church Quilters. For many years she enjoyed delivering newspapers, running blood drives and transporting people to their doctor’s appointments and to the airport.
Surviving are her Husband: Donald Huber of Nokomis, IL; Daughters: Pat (Steve) Janssen of Fillmore, IL, Diana (Steve) Miller of St. Louis, MO, Charlene Mergler of Nokomis, IL, Brenda Hickey of Park Ridge, IL; Grandchildren: Danielle DeWerff, Aaron (Emily) Janssen, Nicholas (Lindsey) Janssen, Spencer (Alicia) Janssen, Michael Miller, Matthew (Danielle) Miller, Marcus Miller, Adam (Maegan) Hickey, Michaela Mergler and companion Mingo Carter, Arianna Mergler; Great- Grandchildren: Gabrielle, Kennedy, and Maddison DeWerff, Elliot and Camryn Janssen, Reagan Janssen, Keller Janssen, and two on the way; Sister: Rita Mordacq of Carmel, IN; Brother-in-Law: Bob Canfield of Friendswood, TX and Several Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter in infancy: Karen Huber, brothers: Joe, Charles, Lawrence, Tom, and Ralph Clavin, sisters: Agnes Canfield, and Mary Clavin.   
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 7, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis, IL with rosary service starting at 3:45 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis, IL with Father Albert Allen officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Nokomis, IL.

David D. Jones

David D. Jones, age 92, of West Bend, WI, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at The Cottages at Cedar Run.

David was born on June 10, 1926 in Taylorville, IL to the late William and Mary (nee Dougherty) Jones. He graduated from Taylorville High School in June of 1944 and was part of the first undefeated state basketball championship team. He went on to serve his country honorably during WWII by enlisting in the United States Navy.

Following his discharge, David went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in education from Beloit College and a master’s degree in educational administration from UW Milwaukee. Throughout his career David was an administrator at Shorewood High School, Homestead High School and Platteville High School.

David was united in marriage to Suzanne Helgren on December 20, 1951 at Lake Park Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, WI. Suzanne preceded him in death on April 1, 2010. David enjoyed golf, tennis, basketball, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.

David is lovingly remembered by his children, Holly (Tom) Stanfield of Lake Geneva, David (Barbara) Jones of Shorewood, Timothy (Pam) Jones of Racine, and Andrew (Susan) Jones of Kiel; grandchildren, Amy Stanfield, David (Jennifer) Jones, Stuart (Emily) Jones, Christopher Jones, Daniel Jones, Jennifer Jones, and Brian Jones; and great-grandchildren, Liam Jones, Cora Jones, Owen Jones, and Trace Jones.

In addition to his wife, David was preceded in death by his brother, William Jones; and his sister, Mary Ann McNamara.

A Memorial Mass in remembrance of David will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 3:00 pm at St. James Episcopal Church (148 S. 8th Ave. West Bend, WI 53095). Friends and relatives are invited to gather at the church on Saturday from 2:30 pm until 3:00 pm for a celebration of life through music.

Merle-Ree Millburg

Merle-Ree Millburg, 103, of Morrisonville, IL, passed away at 9:45 a.m. on Monday, December 31, 2018 at Taylorville Care Center, in Taylorville, IL.

Merle-Ree was born February 24, 1915 in Farmersville, IL, the daughter of Emil and Della (Green) Beil. She married Bernhard T. “Doc” Millburg on February 14, 1936 in Farmersville, IL. He preceded her in death in 1998.

Merle-Ree graduated from Farmersville High School in 1933. She was a homemaker, and assisted Doc in running the family business, Millburg’s Drug Store, for over 30 years. Merle-Ree was also a very talented seamstress, sewing many wedding dresses, and clothing for her family and the community. She was a member of St. Maurice Catholic Church, and their Altar and Rosary Society since 1948. Her family meant everything to her, and she would do anything for them.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Tom Millburg; 3 grandchildren; and 11 siblings.

Merle-Ree is survived by her children, Joyce (companion, Herb Hawkins) White and Janice Hough both of Morrisonville, IL, Ted (wife, Phyllis) and Terry (wife, Barbara) Millburg both of Taylorville, IL, and Jill Whalen of Jacksonville, FL; 19 grandchildren; 56 great grandchildren; numerous great-great grandchildren, and several on the way; as well as, many nieces and nephews.

Visitation & Prayer Service: The family will receive guests from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home, 304 Carlin St., Morrisonville, IL 62546. The visitation will begin with a prayer service.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at St. Maurice Catholic Church, 706 SE 4th St., Morrisonville, IL 62546 with the Very Rev. Albert Allen, V.F. celebrant.

Interment will follow at St. Maurice Catholic Cemetery in Morrisonville.
