Nokomis Response Agencies were dispatched to a fuel tank truck that had failed to negotiate a “turn around” maneuver on Illinois Route 16 near the Subway Restaurant at approximately 11:30AM on Wednesday. The truck which was owned by Farmers Oil Company had a load of fuel that was to be delivered to a bulk storage facility near the scene.
Nokomis Police Department closed of Illinois Route 16 in both directions and the highway remained closed until 4:30 PM. Nokomis Area Fire Protection District provided fire control protection throughout the incident.
Fuel tank trucks from Raymond and Nokomis were brought in to offload the diesel fuel that was in the tank.
No evacuations were ordered and no one was injured throughout the event which concluded once the truck was righted and moved to the bulk storage facility just across the highway from the accident scene.
Illinois State Police also assisted local law enforcement agencies with the investigation of the incident.
Kurt’s Towing from Litchfield assisted in the incident with two heavy wreckers. The wreckers were also used to stabilize the truck and tractor throughout the off-loading process.
Witt Fire Department was placed on stand-by for the incidents and members of the Montgomery County HAZMAT team were on hand to provide technical expertise if needed.
