Two Males Arrested After Fight In Downtown Taylorville

The Taylorville Police Department responded to a fight in the downtown square Monday evening. Taylorville Police received a 911 call at 10:43 stating that a fight was about to occur. According to the police statement, when police arrived, there was a group of people that were there. One man was running towards a Police Officer’s squad car. The man, later identified as Willie Jones II, approached the squad car. When the officer went to talk to him, a juvenile grabbed the officer’s arm to stop him.  The officer pulled away, but the juvenile insisted. At this point, the officer placed the juvenile under arrest. As the officer was arresting the juvenile, the officer stated that Jones came around the back of the police car and grabbed the officer to keep him from arresting the juvenile. The juvenile fought with the police officer until another police officer arrived, and from police statements, the other officer pulled out a taser but never used it. Both suspects were finally detained and placed in police vehicles. After being placed in the squad car, the police report states, that the juvenile calmed and stated that the fight happened when an unknown male had sprayed Jones with mace. The juvenile also apologized for his role in the engagement. Jones was charged with aggravated battery of a police officer. The juvenile was processed and released to his parents. Jones made his first appearance in court Tuesday morning via videophone where probable cause was found by Judge Christopher Matoush and a bond was set at $10,000 with 10% to apply.
