School Board Votes to Close Stonington, Superintendent Resigns

On Monday night, the Taylorville School Board held their monthly meeting, and every seat in the room was filled as it was an impactful night. After the Treasurer's report was given, the board moved on to the consideration of personnel where Superintendent Dr. Gregg Fuerstenau officially read his letter of resignation which will be effective July 1st. After reflecting on his years in Taylorville, Fuerstenau thinks its a good time for a change, and see new faces on the board.

 

 

After that, the board moved on and voted on the closure of Stonington Elementary School, something that has been a major topic of discussion for months. The board ultimately decided to close down the building by a vote of 7-1, and Fuerstenau shares what will happen moving forward.

 

 

Also, the board will try to make use of the building moving forward.

 

 

The Taylorville School Board meets on the second Monday of every month.
